About Master Saleem

Saleem Shahzada, known universally as Master Saleem, was born in Shahkot near Jalandhar to the celebrated Sufi vocalist Ustad Puran Shah Koti – the guru who also trained Hans Raj Hans, Jasbir Jassi and Sabar Koti. He began learning at six, and at seven performed Charkhe Di Ghook at the opening ceremony of Bathinda Doordarshan, earning the “Master” prefix that never left him. His debut album of the same name arrived when he was ten, and Dhol Jagiro Da followed as a genuine folk phenomenon. His voice changed in the late 1990s and his career stalled; he returned in 2000 with the Sufi number Aj Hona Deedar Mahi Da and a run of devotional albums including Mela Maiya Da. Shankar Mahadevan then brought him to Bollywood for Mast Kalandar (Heyy Babyy, 2007), followed by Tashan Mein, Maa Da Ladla, Aahun Aahun and Rola Pe Gaya.

Master Saleem Booking Fee

Master Saleem is a strong mid-tier draw across devotional and folk formats. Estimated fees range from ₹8 lakh to ₹20 lakh+ per show, depending on city, date, set length, ensemble size and travel.

Everything You Need to Know Before Booking Master Saleem

Master Saleem’s booking value comes from an unusual breadth. He is, by training and lineage, a Sufi and devotional singer – the son of Ustad Puran Shah Koti, raised inside a gharana that produced several of Punjab’s most important voices. But he is also the man who sang Mast Kalandar and Maa Da Ladla, which means he can end a set with a Bollywood dance number that everybody in the room knows. For an Indian family event where the evening moves from prayer to party, that combination is genuinely hard to find.

This shapes how organisers use him. Jagran and mata ki chowki events are a natural fit – his devotional albums, Mela Maiya Da and Aj Hai Jagrata among them, are core repertoire for those nights. Wedding families often book him for the reception’s earlier, more emotional segment, or for a Sufi evening the day before. Corporate and cultural organisers book him for gala programming where a classically-trained voice is the point rather than the volume.

His technical needs revolve around the voice. He performs with tabla, harmonium or keys, dholak and supporting vocalists, and the show lives or dies on monitor quality. Insist on a full soundcheck in the contract. A stage with enough depth for the ensemble and a competent front-of-house engineer will make more difference to your guests’ experience than any amount of lighting.

The cost drivers are conventional. City and venue determine travel and hospitality overheads. Date matters – the wedding peak from November to February and the Navratri jagran season both compress his availability. Set length is the third lever, since a 45-minute devotional segment is priced very differently from a two-hour concert. Ensemble size, sound, lighting, travel, stay and taxes generally sit outside the artist fee. Our reference guide on how much it costs to book a Punjabi singer gives realistic ranges before you set a budget.

He tours the UK, Canada, the USA and the Gulf for diaspora audiences, where Punjabi devotional programming has a strong and loyal following. International dates need three to six months of lead time for visas and ensemble logistics.

One brief on preparation: tell his team what kind of evening you want. Saleem will lean Sufi, lean devotional, lean folk or lean Bollywood, and each version of the set is excellent – but the decision should be made in advance, not improvised on stage.

For context, our list of the top 50 male Punjabi singers places him within the broader industry, and our complete Punjabi singers guide helps match artist style to event type. Our team at Book Punjabi Singer handles everything from the first enquiry to the last note.
